Hey hey my beautiful babes! This week we are chatting about all things glam waves and common misconceptions about this popular style! First let’s talk about what glam waves are. This style produces a wave-like pattern, of varying sizes, that are styled into the hair in a uniform direction. The front of the style can vary, some clients opt for a high voluminous bang with a heavy side part, or a slicked bang middle part! Whichever way you choose to wear this hairstyle, you’re going to be a show stopper for sure!! However, many clients come to me with so many misconceptions about this style, so I am here to enlighten you so that when you choose this gorgeous hairdo, you are in the know!
Get the extensions!
You see these styles on Pinterest, and they’re so full and voluminous. Let me fill you in, they have extensions, so you’re going to need them too, hunnay! The only way you won’t need extensions is if you naturally have 3 heads of hair. Let me tell you, I have probably met a handful of clients in 13 years that meet this requirement.
In order for this style to stay in place and produce that full voluminous look, you need ALL the hair. I understand adding extensions means spending more money, but you should invest in yourself on your special day! Clip-in extensions are a great way to go because they can always be reused in the future. More often than not, if your wedding day hair stylist is a licensed cosmetologist they will be able to help you find human hair extensions that can fit your budget. All you have to do is ask! 😉
It’s not movable, sis!
Many clients come to me and say “I want these loose waves”! Babe, although this style appears to be “loose” it is anything but. This style is going to be one entity, meaning it’s going to be teased, sprayed, and styled into those waves and it’s not moving once it’s in place! If you are a hair toucher/tosser I would opt for a different style. Consistently touching and playing with the hair will cause the wave pattern to break up.
Have the trial, babe!
Please have the trial if you are wanting this style. So often I have clients who THINK this is what they want, then I start explaining to them about the structure of the style and how it’s not movable, or the fact they’ll need extensions and they quickly change their mind. Some clients come for a trial, and we execute it, and they decide glam waves are not the style for them and opt for more of a loose beachy wave!
We need TIME!
This is a time consuming style! Plan to sit for a minimum of 45 mins to 1.5 hours depending on your natural hair; extensions; and desired outcome. First, we will prep your natural hair. This means building volume into areas that need some extra oomph! Next, we are installing those extensions. Finally, we are executing the style. But there are multiple steps in this process and it involves a lot of curling, combing, teasing, separating and placing hair exactly where we need it to go. Please understand that more time means styles like this may cost slightly more!
Get the bling, beauty!
So now, we’ve gone and created this amazing wave based style, please top it off with a bit of bling! It doesn’t need to be huge or expensive. But small pearl appliques or a small comb with crystals will fit perfectly into this style. Need help on recommendations specific to your hair style? Ask your stylist, it’s what we are here for! 🙂
