Hello beautiful babes! Who here has ever had their hair personally victimized by humid weather?! Raise your hand!! Well, I am here this week to share some tips about styling your hair in humid, hot weather. We want that hair to be sleek and shiny, instead of fluffy and frizzy during these summer months.
In order to help your hair “behave” in the humidity, we need to start from the beginning. The first step we need to take is using the correct shampoo and conditioner when washing our hair. It is highly recommended to use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. It is important to choose a shampoo and conditioner that have moisturizing and hydrating qualities. Once your hair is cleansed and conditioned, dry it with a towel-lightly squeezing to remove excess moisture, as opposed to rubbing and “roughing” up the hair. This can create friction, which results in frizz.
The next step in this process would be to utilize a leave-in hair cream for those of you with dry or coarse strands. If your hair is normal to oily, try opting for a lightweight leave-in conditioner instead! You will want to apply either of these products when your hair is damp. After application, you can either blow dry or air dry your hair as you usually do.
*Pro tip: For my curly-haired babes try a lightweight gel, as opposed to a cream or conditioner! Diffuse or air dry hair like usual after application.
The final step is styling your hair! Before applying any heat with a hot tool, apply a serum to smooth the hair from mid strand to the ends. This will help protect your strands and keep those flyaways and frizz at bay! Don’t forget to finish your look with a lightweight hair spray to lock your look into place!
So let’s recap. In order to manage your hair and not have a mess of a lion’s mane at the end of the day:
1. Shampoo your hair with a moisturizing, smoothing shampoo and conditioner.
2. Towel dry your hair using a wringing or squeezing motion.
3. Apply a leave-in moisturizing hair cream or lightweight conditioner, depending on hair type and texture.
4. Blow dry or air dry as usual.
5. Utilize a serum to smooth strands before styling or applying heat
6. Style hair to desired look and finish with a lightweight, flexible hairspray.
