Hello and Happy Monday! Today we’re talking humidity, hair, and how to tame your locks! Don’t you just love it when you take the time and actually put effort into your hairstyling, and then step outside, into 95 degree weather, only to look like a frizzy “hot mess” a few hours later?! Yea, me too (said no one ever). Living in Florida, or any other tropical climate has its benefits, but one of them is not the way the humidity interacts with our hairstyling skills! RUDE!
In order to help hair “behave” in the humidity, we need to start from the beginning. The first step we need to take is using the correct shampoo and conditioner when washing our hair. It is highly recommended to use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. One of our favorite products are IGK’s Thirsty Girl Shampoo and Conditioner.
*Remember when drying your hair with a towel, to lightly squeeze as opposed to roughing it up! Rubbing the hair creates friction, which can result in frizz.
The next step in this process would be to utilize a leave in hair cream for those of you with dry or coarse strands. If your hair is normal to oily, try opting for a lightweight leave in conditioner instead! You will want to apply either of these products when your hair is damp. After application, you can either blow dry or air dry your hair as you usually do!
For my curly-haired babes try a lightweight gel, as opposed to a cream or conditioner! Diffuse or air dry hair like usual after application.
The final step is the styling of your hair! Before applying any heat with a hot tool, apply a serum to smooth the hair from mid strand to the ends. This will help protect your hair and keep those flyaways and frizz at bay! Don’t forget to finish your look with a lightweight hair spray to lock your look into place!
So let’s recap. In order to manage your hair and not have a mess of a lion’s mane at the end of the day: 1. Shampoo your hair with a moisturizing, smoothing shampoo and conditioner. 2. Towel dry your hair using a wringing or squeezing motion. 3. Apply a leave-in moisturizing hair cream or lightweight conditioner, depending on hair type and texture. 4. Blow dry or air dry as usual. 5. Utilize a serum to smooth strands before styling. 6. Style hair to desired look and finish with a lightweight, flexible hairspray. That’s it, Sis! Now, you better WERRRRRK, with that frizz free hair! 😉
