Hey hey babes! Welcome back to the BB blog. I hope you are simply FAB this week! This week we are keeping it short and sweet, and sharing some tips on how to determine your skin type. Often times, during our pre makeup application consultation, MUA’s will ask if your skin is more oily, dry, combo, or normal. MANY people think they are oily, for the sheer fact that they produce oil during the day. Well, sis, I have some news for you, everyone’s skin produces oil- just at a different rate(unless you have a rare condition where your skin does NOT produce oil at all,  but that is not what we are discussing here).

The reason why we ask this question is so we can prep your skin properly with specific skin care products. These products will not only enhance the look of your bare skin, but will also complement the overall look of the makeup. If you can answer this question accurately, it can really help us out! I personally think the face wash test is the best and simplest way to determine your skin type! Follow these easy peasy steps below:

Step 1: Wash your face with your normal cleanser, and pat dry. 

Step 2. Wait 10 minutes before you apply ANY products to your skin. 

Step 3: Assess your skin. Look at your face, and pay attention to the different areas, because you may also be a combination skin type. 

• Oily Skin: Skin appears shiny, or may feel slick to the touch

• Dry Skin: Skin has dry, flakey areas and/or may feel tight, can appear to look dull 
• Sensitive Skin: Skin looks red and irritated, MAY be painful to the touch
• Combination Skin: Skin has a combination of both oily and flakey areas(many people are more oily-normal in the T zone area of their face, and more dry to normal on their cheeks and outer forehead area)

That’s it, babe! The whole test should take approximately 12 minutes, and you’ll know your skin type. Knowledge is power, not only will you be able to help your MUA when getting your makeup done, but you’ll also be able to choose both skincare and makeup products alike that work well for your skin type.
