Hello beauty babes! I hope you’re doing just fabulous! This week on the blog we are talking about prepping your hair for the big day! Taking this advice will not only help your hair look amazing, but your hairstylist will thank you as well! Too often we, as hairstylists, arrive to a wedding and the bridal party has their hair up in a messy bun, or they haven’t washed their hair for days, leaving it as greasy as a fast food burger. EEK! Don’t worry, I am here to fill you in on some hair secrets that will help you and your bridal party have amazing wedding day hair! Keep reading because we’re spilling all the tea!
DO: SHAMPOO AND BLOWDRY YOUR HAIR THE NIGHT BEFORE THE WEDDING: Shampooing your hair the night or day before the wedding will ensure your hair is clean and free of oil or build up. If your hair is very oily, you can wait until the morning of, to complete this step. Your hair MUST be blow dried after shampooing. This will help smooth your hair and add shine. It will also help reduce frizz and create some natural volume in the hair.
DON’T: GO TO SLEEP WITH YOUR HAIR WET/IN A MESSY BUN:
After shampooing your hair, please make sure it is completely dry before going to sleep. Sleeping with wet hair or hair up can not only damage or break your hair, but it can also cause your hair to become more frizzy and also can add unwanted textures to the hair- creating a less than perfect canvas to work with.
DO: ADD STYLING PRODUCTS WHEN BLOW DRYING YOUR HAIR
If you are unsure of what type of products to add to your hair before a blow dry, ask your wedding day hairstylist. If you have fine, limp hair I would suggest a heat protectant plus a volumizing mousse in order to add shine and body to the hair. If you have curly or wavy hair, but do not want to keep the natural curl pattern incorporated into the style; utilize a serum or conditioning product then add a blowout straightening product. If you would like to keep the natural curl in tact; utilize a curl enhancing product and then diffuse the hair.
DON’T: THROW YOUR HAIR IN A BUN IN THE MORNING
I know my long hair babes want that hair off your neck and our of your face while getting ready for the day, but please do not throw your hair into a ponytail or messy bun the morning of the wedding. This can cause unwanted kinks and dents in the hair. If you need to pull it back away from your face, pull it half back using a claw clip or silk scarf instead of a band or scrunchie.
That’s it babe! Following these simple steps will ensure your wedding day hair looks STUNNING! It will be clean, free of frizz, and voluminous, meeting all your bridal hair goal dreams. However, I do suggest that you ask your hairstylist their preferences on how they specifically would like you to prep your hair. Following their directions will be beneficial to both of you!
