Hello my beautiful babes! I hope you are AMAZING! The weather is warming up and summer is coming in hot hot hot! Which means it’s time to make some skincare swaps! Don’t worry, no need to go running to the beauty store to drop your life’s savings on completely new products. However, you should make sure you are following a few key steps in your daily skincare routine for the summer season!
SPF: Can’t recommend it enough! This should be the final step in your skincare routine every single morning! (All year long, but especially in summer!) It is highly recommended by dermatologists to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30. You should use this on your face, ears, hands, and lips! (Don’t forget the back of the neck for men or short haired babes!)
Our sunscreen suggestion is Goop Unseen sunscreen. It’s a lightweight gel sunscreen that is colorless, so it won’t leave a white cast on your skin. It has an SPF of 40.
Lightweight products: Just as you would change over your wardrobe from winter to summer, it’s time to make the swap in your skincare! Switch your cream based cleansers for a foaming option. Scrap those heavy duty moisturizers, and opt for something lighter on the skin, such as a hydrating gel. Even if you have dry skin you can still keep it hydrated, while using less heavy- overly creamy products.
Use a Vitamin C serum: Vitamin C serums help to minimize fine lines, improves collagen production and can help prevent hyperpigmentation(dark spots). Add in this product between cleansing and moisturizing! Check out my personal favorite Vitamin C serum here!
Hydrate and Exfoliate: Do NOT stop moisturizing your skin, babe! Just because it’s getting hotter and you’re getting more oily or shiny, does not mean you can skip moisturizer. Skipping this step will have your skin producing MORE oil than ever before to make up for the lack of hydration. Be sure to also add in some extra exfoliation, especially for oily skin! Slough away those dead skin cells, sis!
*One of my personal favorite ways to exfoliate is by using glycolic acid pads. In the PM, after cleansing your skin, swipe one of these over your skin before you moisturize. These help to gently renew your skin. They are also perfect for blemish-prone skin, enlarged pores, dark spots, uneven texture, dry or dull skin. Make sure you are using SPF when using this type of product!!
Wear non-comedogenic makeup products: Look for this on the label of your skincare and makeup products. When pores become clogged, it causes breakouts. So keep those pores free from build up!
*One of our favorite products for summer is Milk Makeup’s Sunshine Skin Tint. This product is a game changer! It’s non-comedogenic; it’s a moisturizer, SPF, and skin tint all in one! Trust us, you cannot go wrong with this one!
