Hello my beautiful babes! Last time we “met” we discussed hairstyling in humidity. So, this week it’s only natural to chat about makeup applications for hot, humid weather. It’s August, which tends to bring some of the hottest days, especially living here in Florida. These are the days where you feel like you’re melting simply by stepping outside! YUCK! No one wants their face dripping, it’s not a good look. 

If You Can, Try Wearing Minimal Makeup

One of my first tips is to try and wear minimal makeup during these summer months, instead of a full glam beat! Less cake up-means less time worrying about creasing or sliding. A little bit of long-wearing concealer and a powder foundation can go a long way! However, if the minimal-skin look isn’t for you, then let’s talk about some things you can do to help that makeup stay as fresh as possible, without slipping and sliding all over your face! 

But if You Can’t, Follow These Steps!

There are several steps in the makeup application process that are absolutely necessary for your makeup application to stay and slay all day. They are: moisturizer, primer, translucent setting powder, and setting spray. First, let’s start with a fresh, clean face, and then add a lightweight moisturizer, best suited for your skin type. (Pro tip: let sit for 5 minutes then dab any excess off with a tissue). You may think to yourself, “Oh, I am going to be oily and sweating, I should skip moisturizer, right?!” WRONG! Never ever skip that moisturizer, sis. 

After you have thoroughly hydrated your skin, it’s time to apply primer. If you are going to be using a silicone based foundation, make sure your primer is also silicone based. If water based foundation is your choice (recommended for hot weather), use a water based primer! Why is primer so important? It helps to prevent makeup from settling into pores, lines, and creases. It also helps create an even canvas, and smoothes texture. Finally, it aids in long wearing makeup throughout the day! Don’t forget to use an eye primer for eyeshadow application! This helps the shadows to stick to the eyelid, enhance the vibrancy of the shadow color, and  prevents moving or creasing. 

After your makeup application, you are going to want to “set” certain areas with a translucent setting powder. I suggest doing this under the eye area, to prevent creasing in the concealer, and any other areas where you tend to be more sweaty, or oily. Simply dab the translucent powder to cover the newly applied makeup and let it sit for a minute or two, then brush it away with a fluffy brush. Next, finish that look with a setting spray! This is like hairspray for the face, and is going to lock in your makeup application all day long! Top off the look with waterproof mascara and go!  

Now, we do not all have perfect skin. My oily skin babes are going to get shiny and need some extra oil control throughout the heat of the day. Throw some blot sheets in your purse, and you’re good to go! (Pro tip: if you don’t have blot sheets, use a tissue instead). For those, who are like me, and have dry skin, sometimes we need a little added moisture throughout the day. Use MAC cosmetics travel sized fix plus spray and apply a light mist any time your face seems to be looking dry or if your makeup creases! Blend those creases back out with ease, or add a luminous glow back into your skin with this amazing spray! 

We’ve given you a lot of information for the day, but all you need to remember is: moisturizer, primer, setting powder and spray! Try these steps if your makeup application needs a heat and humidity proof boost!
