Yes, babes, I am talking to you-the one who is eloping/having an intimate wedding, or hosting a destination wedding! I am sharing some major tea on what you should know when planning your hair and makeup from afar. Let’s get into it!

DO YOUR RESEARCH!

This is even more important when planning a wedding, in an area you are unfamiliar with! Looking on Instagram is a GREAT way to begin your research process, it’s SUCH an amazing tool to view your hair or makeup artists work! But babe, don’t solely rely on that!(not with all these filtered makeup looks out there…)  Make sure you are also reading reviews, and reviewing their website and pricing. If there’s one major tip I can tell you, it is to HIRE A BRIDAL SPECIALIST. Not all HMUA’s are created equal, and you would be doing yourself a disservice, to hire someone who does not regularly work in a high stress environment, that is ultra time sensitive! 

COMMUNICATION IS KEY!

When inquiring with hair and makeup artists, save your sanity and hire a bridal specialist that is RESPONSIVE to your communications. Hiring someone who responds in a timely manner, will help to keep you stress free when it comes to the planning process! Trust me! It is all too often I hear “They took my deposit, then fell off the face of the Earth” !!! EEK! Planning from afar requires effective and timely communications. Ask your bridal HMUA their planning process and how they will keep you on track from contract signing to wedding day! 

HAVE A CONVERSATION! 

Once you narrow down your selection, to a few options that meet your style and budget, schedule a time for a quick phone consultation so you can ask a few questions and also get to know your artist as well! You want to make sure you connect and that you are both on the same page with your overall vision! 

HAVE A TRIAL!

I cannot stress this enough, babe! Trials are super important so that we can create the PERFECT look for you on wedding day! Trials are usually the time where we, as artists, spend getting to know you and your personal style! At the trial we’re going to chat, ALOT! Bring those inspo photos, and I will have ALL the questions to ask, so that we can really narrow it down and hone in on the LEWK of your dreams! Almost all trials require a few necessary tweaks, so don’t worry, we will make any necessary adjustments you’d like! Remember we want you to LOVE your look, not just like it.

NO TRIAL, THEN CHAT FACE TO FACE!

Ok, I totally understand if there is no possible way you can make it to your destination for a trial in advance before the big day. Sometimes, it’s just not feasible! Lucky for you, Beauty Brigade offers virtual consultations! This is a 15-30 minute face to face call(Zoom or FaceTime) where you and your wedding day artist will chat, while regarding inspo photos provided by yourself. Your artist will ask you a million and one questions in order to learn more details about your skin and your skincare, your hair type and texture, and so so much more! We then take your photos and these notes, and create a fully customized look for you. Generally, on wedding day, more time is allotted to ensure execution of the look is EXACTLY what you want, babe! 

This could also be implemented in the reverse, if your hair and makeup artist is traveling to you for wedding day and you won’t be able to have a trial with them beforehand!
